I am gemma, a maui based photographer
Originally from Bowen Island, a magical little rock just off the coast of British Columbia, I can’t seem to get away from island life. I met the love of my life on Maui and ended up raising our two incredible and wild children here. Lyla and Louie, my greatest accomplishments. I could talk your ear off about how cool, fun and amazing they are. Outside of photography and being a mama, I’m usually found enjoying fresh air moving my body in some way. Mountain biking, hiking, trying to surf, or swimming (but most likely mountain biking).
Attending university for Fine Arts when I was 18, I found a passion for film photography. This developed into a love for photography in general, drawn to the concept of being able to freeze a moment in time or capture a feeling.
When I was no longer pregnant, my husband said that he couldn’t visualize what I had looked like with a belly anymore. I remembered how when I was pregnant I could barely recall what I looked like before the belly. “Thank goodness for photos” he said, and I smiled because that is exactly why I do what I do.

Okay, my people and clients are so kind. If you asked ME, I would say...
I’m creative, adventurous, reliable and a very go-with-the-flow kind of person. I love food of all kinds and would be a horrible food critic because everything is absolutely delish! I always have some kind of creative project happening, from sewing to scrapbooking to trying out a new Pinterest recipe, and a million things on my "to-photograph" list. The ultimate happy-place for me is just being outdoors with my family. My sisters are my best friends. They both described me as 'funny' which is an absolute honor because they are the funniest two people I know. Last but not least, I really love being a mom. As challenging as it can be, being someones everything is just such an honor.
My journey through marriage, pregnancy and motherhood has given me the perspective and deep appreciation for the beauty and complexity of these stages of life. I understand the importance of capturing the big and small, meaningful moments that come with it all. From the honeymoon phase filled with a sense of adventure and heart-eyes, to the excitement and transformation experienced during pregnancy. From the fragile and love-drunk moments of early parenthood, to the beautifully chaotic whirlwind of the toddler years.
The significance and beauty of each stage is endless. My experiences with each season of life help me approach each session with empathy and care, creating a collection of photos that feel authentic to your individual journey.
